Most of us on a daily basis need to NDM data from mainframes to Desktop and viceversa. We can go to COMMAND screen in TSO and download or upload file. This is a tedious task and we will not be able to use the Mainframe session as well during the process.

There is a faster way for this NDM process.

1. In Windows. Open the Command Prompt (START>RUN>CMD)

2. Type in the command “FTP HOSTNAME”

HOSTNAME is the your hostname that you use to connect to mainframes which can be found in OPTIONS of your EMULATOR.

3. It will ask you for your mainframe credentials

4. type GET “DATASET NAME” “DESKTOP FILE NAME”

DATASET NAME is mainframe PS name

DESKTOP FILE NAME – you can also include extension like notepad.txt

This would NDM the dataset much times faster than the conventional method.
