You will be working on emulator that is connected to mainframe all through your workday. You must do a lot of copy, paste all along the day. Setting some keyboard mappings for the actions that you do frequently will save you a lot of time. Even if for each action, it is just a second or two, when you combine the effort for the whole day, you will save lot of time.

How to setup keyboard mapping

In IntelliTerm, you need to go to, Options > Terminal Settings > Keyboard Mapping… which will open a pop window that will allow you to do your required mappings

Note: In other emulators, try to search around for keyboard mappings

Keyboard mappings that I have currently

As you can see, you need to select the key on the keyboard that you want to select and also choose if you want to perform that action when you just enter the key or do with a combination of modifier keys (Control, Alt, Shift).

In the above screenshot, I am trying to assign the combination of CTRL + C to “COPY” Function.

EDIT-COPY                  – CTRL + C

EDIT-CUT                    – CTRL + X

EDIT-PASTE                 – CTRL + V

EDIT-INSERT                – CTRL + I

DELETE (One Char)      – DELETE

DELETE TILL END OF LINE – CTRL + END

(This is most helpful when you want to clear anything on the command line before pasting the content)

MOVE TO END            – END

CLOSE SESSION          – Ctrl + B

Below are common ISPF settings

FunctionKey
EnterCtrl (right side)
Exit, end, or returnPF3
HelpPF1
PA1 or AttentionAlt-Ins or Esc
PA2Alt-Home
Cursor movementTab or Enter
ClearPause
Page upPF7
Page downPF8
Scroll leftPF10
Scroll rightPF11
Reset locked keyboardCtrl (left side)

Another important option that helps is the auto-copy when you select a text. To do this, you must go to Options > Edit Session Profile > Cursor.
